Volunteer Time Off
Many employers offer Volunteer Time Off (VTO), paid time off for community service, or a charitable match for hours given to a non-profit. If yours does, this page has what your HR department is likely to ask for.
Capital LAN Corp. is a community-run organization that puts on gaming events in New York's Capital Region. Everything from the network build to the front desk is run by volunteers, and the events are open to the community rather than to a membership.
Volunteering with us usually means a shift or two across an event weekend — setting up the venue, running a tournament, staffing check-in, operating the stream, or packing down afterwards. Each open role on our Help Wanted board lists what it involves and roughly how much time it takes.
Some programs want a signed letter, a specific form completed, or confirmation after the fact of the hours actually worked. Email admin@capitallan.org and tell us what your employer needs — we would much rather fill in their form properly than have you lose the benefit.
